Small Size – small to medium size birds that come in many sizes.  Almost all have a clearly defined eye ring.  Cage size varies depending on the size of the bird, but must be given as large a cage as possible and lots of toys.

Colorful – Colors range from lush greens to brilliant yellow, reds, and oranges, and into the whites and browns.

Personality – intelligent , high energy,  very friendly, easily tamed, extremely  social, and real clowns!  They are quite playful and they love to learn tricks. They enjoy spending as much time out of their cage with their owners and on a play stand.

Affectionate – love to cuddle.  Many conures have been crushed by their owners who fall asleep and roll over on them while napping.

Vocalization – Most can learn to talk though their voices are high pitched and they aren’t as clear as some of the larger parrots.   Most have a harsh screech . The green cheek conures are generally quiet pets, but the sun, jenday and nanday conures can be very noisy at times.

Hardy – most are healthy, hardy birds that rarely get sick if fed a proper diet.

They love to bathe and relish getting wet in the shower with their owner.  Even after the morning shower, they will probably take a dip in their water bowl.

Conures need a great deal of exercise.  They can become bored quickly if they don’t have enough to amuse themselves.  They will spend hours swinging, climbing and playing with toys, and will generally chew up anything wooden.

Feeding them is not a problem.  They love pellets and healthy fruits, vegetables, rice, beans, etc.  They seem to be willing to try almost anything.
